Vocational and Medical Rehabilitation

Vocational and Medical Case Management remains the staple of the Occupational Rehabilitation Group of Canada. ORGOC's team of experienced professionals work with the referring agent, government agencies or disability insurance provider's in providing for a solution focused, multidisciplinary and individualized plan to return the clients to a level of function that either allows for a return to work or manages to bring the matter to a successful conclusion. This means a determination of alternative employment based on maximum medical recovery or some other means by which the client becomes independent of disability benefits if physically and mentally possible.

To do this ORGOC provides the following services:

Vocational / Medical Case Management
  • Work with the injured worker to identify medical problems and issues and arrange for appropriate medical services or interventions.
  • Assume responsibility for effective communication with attending health care practitioner(s).
  • Ensure all treatment providers (medical / vocational) are pro-actively working towards a common goal. This expedites the treatment process, resulting in an early and successful return to work.

Job Demand / Task Analysis
  • Evaluate an employment situation in terms of physical requirements of the job to determine if the client may return to the pre-accident position or a potential new job.

Vocational Assessment
  • Comprehensive assessments may include interest, academic, aptitude, dexterity and perceptual testing. Work habits, behaviours and medical conditions are monitored as are conditions under which the person learns best.

Transferable Skills / Residual Earning Capacity Analyses
  • Provide information concerning a client's transferable skills, employment potential and earning capacity in the local labour market.

Graduated Return to Work
  • Facilitate the re-introduction of the client to the workplace and job duties.
  • Design an individualized program for the client so a return to work is accomplished on a gradual basis.

Employment Placement
  • The consultant provides guidance and direct assistance to the individual resulting in opportunities for paid employment.

Employment Counselling / Employment Transition
  • Work with the client to identify an appropriate career direction based on education, training, experience, interests and aptitudes. Services may also include resume development, interview skills training, accessing the hidden job market, arranging information interviews, job shadowing and work experiences.

Labour Market Surveys
  • Provide information on job vacancies, wage ranges, past and future availability, qualifications and physical demands.
  • Can be used to identify employers for work experiences or job training.

Residual Employability Assessment
  • Identifies the client's pre- and post disability vocational and earning potential to assist litigants in negotiating loss of future income.

Client Assessment
  • Meet with the client to determine current status.
  • Provide a snapshot of the physical, psychosocial and vocational situation at a point in time.

Three Point Assessment
  • Provide an evaluation of the client's situation and assist them moving towards effective medical, psychosocial and vocational recovery. Includes contact with the client, physician and other treatment providers as well as the employer.
  • Determine a specific and detailed action plan with the required intervention and confirm the suitability of vocational rehabilitation services for a particular client.
