Neuro Recovery Services (NRS)

With brain injury, truly effective rehabilitation requires specialized staffing and programs in order to deal with the many complexities involved. There are many factors that have to be considered, like the combination of cognitive, psychological, behavioural and physical changes which can occur.

NRS Case Managers strive to initiate swift response, evaluation and implementation of programs. NRS Resource Aides are assigned, on a one-to-one basis, and begin their involvement as soon as possible following the injury in order to promote maximum recovery. Having Resource Aides work under the direction of NRS Case Managers as well as other professional NRS staff, results in the patient receiving the best programs and services while still maintaining overall cost-effectiveness.

Our NRS staff is committed to achieving the highest degree of functional recovery while at the same time providing the best possible quality of life in the present. We recognize that those closest to the patient are concerned and want to be included in the entire recovery process. The staff at NRS is specially trained to provide them with the information and educational resources required to understand and deal with the diverse effects of brain injury.

As recovery progresses, NRS provides pre-employment assessments to target issues that might affect a return to work. Vocational assessments, counseling, pre-employment services, work experiences and volunteer placements are just some of the tools used in this process. Case Managers work closely with employers and insurers to modify jobs where there is a pre-accident employer or to facilitate placement in a new position where there isn't.

In addition, Job Development Specialists with ORGOC are available to assist with direct job placement, labour market research and a transferable skills analysis. Because of the nature of the brain injuries and the fact that long term follow-up may be required, NRS Job Coaches are available to provide immediate feedback and counsel.

NRS employs the services of two highly qualified and experienced Occupational Therapists. These accredited therapists assist in providing:

  • home assessments
  • seating assessments and consultation
  • cognitive rehabilitation programs
  • consultation concerning assistive technology & vocational services

Our NRS staff is also able to provide assistance when integrating back into the community:

  • Home Management Skills
  • Personal Care and Hygiene
  • Money Management
  • Time Management
  • Leisure Skill Development
  • Accessing Community Resources

NRS will be there for you every step of the way. Let us be your guide.
